Leaving Harwich via Dovercourt, I set off through the southern suburbs of Little Oakley, some big houses and large estates, before finally seeing countryside some five miles after leaving the middle of Harwich. There was a fine view of Hamsey Water and the islands in Walton Creek below, and up on a ridge was the old parish church.
Closed, now a private house, so this was as close as I bothered to get. A surprisingly large church, with a truncated tower. The owners have put windows in the roof of the nave, which is rather effective. The William Morris glass that was here, designed by Edward Burne-Jones, was moved to Ugley on the other side of Essex upon redundancy.
