Closed, apparently awaiting a new use. As lovely as it looks from the road, as you climb the track towards it it begins to reveal itself as an ungainly 19th Century church, the tower forming a north porch, very tall and gaunt.
A sign says that services are now held at St Martin in Chipping Ongar, but there are lots of new graves making me think it is now the parish burial ground. The church is in a poor old state, roof tiles missing, gutters sagging, etc. Quite atmospheric in its way. It would be nice to think that a new use other than domestic conversion could be found. Until then, why not simply open it up? Then, back down to the Dunmow road and off again into very lovely rolling countryside to Moreton.Simon Knott, April 2014
