Staining Lane runs off of Gresham Street, and this was a
late medieval church with an earlier foundation in that
area of so many little churches which were burned in the
Great Fire. It was one of a number in the area not to be
rebuilt, but the burial ground continued into use into
the 1850s and is today a little public park. Two sides
are enclosed in an office block which presumably supplies
many of the lunchtime visitors who sit here to eat their
sandwiches. There are a few old headstones hidden in the
shrubberies, and the name of the church at the park
entrance. Otherwise you'd never know.
