Robert was three months old at the time of the 1841 census. The census gives the family's address as Cottage, Great Sampford, Essex.

His father James was 32 years old. He was working as an agricultural labourer. His mother Abigail was 27 years old.

Robert was the third of three children at home at the time of the 1841 census. Mary Anne was 5, Eliza was 2, Robert was 3 months.

His father James was forty-two years old He was working as an agricultural labourer. His mother Abigail was 37 years old.

Robert was the third of six children at home at the time of the 1851 census. Mary Anne was 15, Eliza was 12, Robert was 10, Emma was 7, James was 4 and Sarah was 1. Mary Anne, Eliza and Robert are recorded as straw plaiters.

Robert was twenty years old at the time of the 1861 census. He was working as an agricultural labourer. The census gives the address as The Grange, Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

His father James was fifty-four years old, and is also recorded as an agricultural labourer. His mother Abagail (Abigail) was 49 years old.

Robert was the oldest of six children at home at the time of the 1861 census. Robert was 20, James was 14, Sarah was 11, Louisa was 9, William was 6 and Lydia was 3. Abigail and James are also recorded as agricultural labourers.

His wife Maryann was 29 years old.

Robert had four children at home at the time of the 1871 census. Alfred was 6, John was 4, Emily was 3 and Ann was 11 months.

Robert was born at Sandford in Essex, actually Great Sampford. His wife was born at Shudy Camps in Cambridgeshire. Alfred was born at Duxford in Cambridgeshire, while the other children were born at Ickleton. The transcript for their entry is here.

Robert was forty years old at the time of the 1881 census. He is shown as an agricultural labourer. The family address is given as Cottage, Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

His wife, Mary Ann Reynolds, was aged 39.

Robert had eight children at the time of the 1881 census. Alfred, an agricultural labourer, was 16, John, an agricultural labourer, was 14, Emily was 13, Annie was 10, Eliza was 8, Edmund was 6, and Ellen was 4 and Thomas was 2.

Robert is recorded as having been born at Old Sanford in Essex, actually Great Sampford, and his wife at Shudy Camps in Cambridgeshire (actually only a mile or so from Great Sampford). Of the children, Alfred, Ellen and Thomas were born in Duxford. Eliza and Edmund were born in Great Chesterford in Essex, and John, Emily and Annie were born at Ickleton in Cambridgeshire. Interestingly, two cottages away are two more Reynolds, James Reynolds and Abigail Reynolds, almost certainly the parents of Robert Reynolds. James Reynolds was 72 years old at the time of the 1882 census. He is shown as an agricultural labourer. His wife Abigail was 67 years old. James was born at Old Sanford in Essex, and Abigail was born at Radwinter in Essex. The transcript for their entry is here.

Robert was fifty years old at the time of the 1891 census. He was an agricultural labourer living at Duxford Heath, Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

His wife, Mary Ann Reynolds, was 49.

Robert had four children living at home at the time of the 1891 census. Edmund, a shepherd boy, was 15, Ellen S was 14, Thomas F was 12 and Robert G was 9. Also living with them was their nephew Ernest W Carter, aged 5, born in Thriplow, Cambridgeshire.

Robert is recorded as having been born at Old Sandford in Essex, actually Great Sampford, and Mary Ann, his wife, at Shudy Camps in Cambridgeshire. The children were born in Duxford except for Edmund, who was born at Great Chesterford in Essex. The transcript for their entry is here.

 
 
1901 census:

Robert was fifty-nine years old at the time of the 1901 census. He was living at High Street, Dry Drayton, Cambridgeshire. The street still exists today.

Robert is shown as a stockman on a farm. His wife Mary Ann was 58.

They had two children living at home on the night of the 1901 census. Thomas, aged 22 and Robert, aged 19, who were both agricultural labourers. Also living with them was their grandson Ernest Joseph Elzey, aged 3, born in North Bow in London.

The Reynolds household had three lodgers on the night of the census. They were George and Albert Sheet, apparently father and son, and William Jackson. All three were agricultural labourers.

Robert was seventy years old at the time of the 1901 census. He was living at High Street, Dry Drayton, Cambridgeshire. The street still exists today.

Robert is shown as a stockman on a farm. His wife Mary Ann was 69. They had been married for 47 years.

They had no children living at home on the night of the 1901 census.

Robert died at the age of 75, and was buried in Dry Drayton churchyard on 31st May.
