(1874-1936). My Father's Mother's Father's
Brother. My Great-Great-Uncle.
Henry Page was the oldest of the thirteen children of
Henry and Alice Page, born more than a quarter of a
century before the youngest. The Pages were a large
family, and lived in the Back Hill area of Ely. Henry was
just too old to be called up for the First World War. He
worked in Ely Jam Factory, and several photographs depict
him there.
1874:
Henry was born at Broad Street,
Ely, Cambridgeshire in January and
baptised in Holy Trinity parish, Ely Cathedral on
4th February.

1881 census:
Henry was seven
years old at the time of the 1881 census.
The Page family were living in Annesdale,
Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Henry's father
Henry is shown as an agricultural
labourer. He was 26 years old.
His mother Alice was also 26 years old.
Henry was the
eldeest of five children at the time of
the 1881 census. William 5, Emma 3,
Arthur 2 and John less than 1.
Henry was born in Ely,
Cambridgeshire, as were his siblings and
his mother. His father Henry's place of
birth is given as Great Chesterford,
Cambridgeshire. Other sources give Great
Shelford, Cambridgeshire (Great
Chesterford is actually just over the

census:
Henry was sixteen
years old at the time of the 1891 census.
The Page family were living in Broad
Street, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Henry's father
Henry is shown as a labourer.
He was 38 years old. His mother Alice was
36 years old.
Herbert was the
fourth of seven children at the time of
the 1891 census. Henry was 16,
Arthur was 12, John was 9, Herbert was 7,
Robert was 5, Susan was 3 and Thomas was
10 months.
Robert
was born in Ely,
Cambridgeshire, as were his siblings and
his mother. His father Henry's place of
birth is given as Shelford,

1901 Census: Henry was twenty seven
years old at the time of the 1901 census. He was
lodging in the household of Edward Parker, a
bootmaker of Ouse Cottages, Annesdale,
Ely, Cambridgeshire. Henry's occupation
was given as a railway abourer.

1911
Census: Henry was thirty seven at
the time of the 1911 census. He was still lodging in the
household of Edward Parker, now at Victoria
Street, Ely, Cambridgeshire. By now,
Edward Parker was a railway porter, and Henry's
occupation was given as a general labourer in the
Jam Factory. He was unmarried
1912: Henry is
shown on two photographs taken at Ely Jam Factory
this year, one of a group of packers, and one of
the whole workforce:
1916:
On Boxing Day, Henry was a witness to
his brother Thomas's marriage to Emily Price in
the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral.
1920:
Henry appears along with his brother
Thomas in another photograph of the Ely Jam
Factory workforce, taken after the War:
1936:
Henry died at the age of 62, and was buried in
Ely cemetery on 3rd November 1936, in plot G140.
