LIFE GOES
ON
Mary Moody
born Dry Drayton, Cambs, 1803
died St Ives, Huntingdonshire, 1885
on the Cornwell family tree
part of the Mortlock family story
married to John
Mortlock
mother of Thomas
Mortlock
Mary Moody (1803
-1885). My Mother's Father's Mother's
Father' Mother. My Great-Great-Great-Grandmother.
1803: in later
years, Mary would give her birthplace as Swavesey, but
the only recorded baptism of a baby of the right age is
of a Mary Moody born at Dry Drayton, a nearby parish, and
baptised at Dry Drayton parish church on February 20th.
Her mother was recorded as Ann, 'an unmarried woman'. If
this is the right Mary, then it may explain why Mary was
prepared to give Swavesey as her birthplace from 1851
onwards. Alternatively, she may never have known exactly
where she was born. Mary's mother Ann married Joseph
Taylor of Childerley on March 14th, so this was probably
Mary's father. Childerley is adjacent to Dry Drayton, but
also close to Swavesey. By an extraordinary coincidence,
athough Mary is on my maternal grandfather's side of the
family, one of the witnesses was Joseph Markham, who is
on my maternal grandmother's side of the family.
1826: Mary married
John Mortlock at at Swavesey, Cambridgeshire
on 3rd December. Both gave Swavesey as their home parish.
The witnesses were John Fuller and Hannah Gilby.
